Repipe FAQ's
What is a repipe?
A whole home repipe is the complete replacement of the hot and cold potable water plumbing in your home. A Horizontal Only Repipe is just the same, but ONLY replacing the hot and cold potable water plumbing in the attic or crawl space.
How do you know if you need a repipe?
The majority of the houses we repipe suffer from more than one of the following issues:
-
Frequent plumbing issues.
-
Poor water pressure.
-
Noisy pipes.
-
Visible pipe corrosion.
-
Discolored water
-
Original galvanized pipes.
Is it worth it to repipe a home?
Yes. Some of the advantages of repiping your house are; increased home value, improved water quality, better water pressure, reduced water bills, and fewer water pipe issues.
Does insurance cover repipes?
Most of the time, no. However, your insurance may cover the damages caused by water damage. This is another reason to get your house repiped. Avoid the headache of water damage and having to deal with the insurance company. Repipe before there is an issue.
How do I prepare my house for repiping?
Repipes can be intrusive to the home and disruptive to daily life. It is best to prepare for both.
-
Clear out areas that have plumbing.
-
Protect your belongings.
-
Be prepared for water to be off for extended periods of time.
-
Relocation during the process may be necessary.
-
Pets may need to be relocated.
-
The noise level will go up during this time, so take precautions.
How long does it take?
The time is takes can vary on a few different reasons. First, the overall size of the project. A two-story home takes longer than a single-story. A home with 3 full baths takes longer than a 1.5 full bath house. Access to the plumbing is also crucial. Since most of the plumbing is concealed, other unforeseen issues may cause delays. A single-story 2 full bath home, on average, takes about 5 business days to complete.
Will the plumber need to open walls and ceilings?
Yes. We do our best to minimize each access hole. A lot of planning goes into repipes to create the best path to success, but sometimes there are hidden obstacles that must be overcome by removing cover material.
Can my house be partially repiped?
Most of the time, yes. You do have the option to either repipe a portion of your home, the attic only, or a combination of the two if you are not wanting to do a full whole home repipe. This option goes away if the existing plumbing is too far degraded or unsafe to reuse.
Do we offer remodeling services?
Yes. We work with multiple remodelers that come in after we are done to patch up whatever holes had to be made. This service can be included into your financing, if desired.
Does repiping require a permit and inspection?
Only if you pay your water bill to a "City of ..." If your water bill is paid to a local "MUD...", then no.
What is the difference between PEXa and PEXb?
PEXa pipe is expandable. This allows a certain amount of expansion to happen if the pipe freezes. Due to how PEXa is structured, it can return back to its normal size without any integrity deformations. PEXb can not do that.
PEXa fittings are also designed in such a way that the inner diameter of the fitting is the same as the pipe. This allows the water flow to continue with less flow restriction. PEXb is not desinged this way. PEXb fittings restrict the inner diameter of the pipe, therefore, restricting the flow. Most PEXa products come with a 15-25 year manufactures' warranty.
